The Codlet is a rare species in New Zealand waters, recorded from a signal specimen caught off the Mahia Peninsula (east coast of the north island). Epipelagic to mesopelagic occurring at depths of 45-950m over depths of 1000-2000m. Feeds on small zooplankton and can grow to a maximum size of 85mm
